Hope for Badjao

Restoring dignity, preserving identity, and creating pathways of opportunity for the Badjao community.

Hope for Badjao

Hope for Badjao is JCI Mandaue’s cultural and social inclusion initiative dedicated to the Badjao community of Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City. Rooted in compassion and long-term empowerment, the program recognizes the unique struggles of the Badjao, often known as sea nomads, many of whom now live as urban settlers in vulnerable conditions. Through this initiative, JCI Mandaue seeks to bridge the gap between exclusion and opportunity by creating a support system anchored on its four pillars of H.O.P.E.

The program stands on these four core pillars:

• **H – Health (**Focused on bringing accessible healthcare, medical missions, wellness support, and preventive care to a community often underserved and marginalized.)

• **O – Opportunities (**Creating livelihood pathways and skills development programs that help Badjao families move beyond street begging and build sustainable sources of income.)

P – Preservation of Culture ( Protecting and celebrating the Badjao’s rich heritage, traditions, and identity, while encouraging pride in their roots amidst changing times.)

E – Education ( Promoting learning opportunities for both children and adults through literacy programs, school support, and civic education, helping them become empowered and active members of society.)

More than an outreach initiative, Hope for Badjao is a commitment to inclusion, dignity, and transformation, proving that true progress happens when no community is left unseen or unheard.
